Description
Students will create a scavenger hunt of murals and statues in the area in order to engage Iowa City families, specifically kids, in the works of art downtown. Our third-sixth graders will write clues about each piece of art leading families on a scavenger hunt of the art in the downtown area. Citizens who participate in the scavenger hunt will submit their names in a drawing to win prizes. Local businesses, like Blick, will help to supply prizes. Students will need to visit the murals to create the clues, revise the scavenger hunt after they receive feedback from the downtown district, and reach out to other local businesses to explain the project and request prizes.
Additionally, students will interview four local muralists and write updated biographies about them which are viewable with a QR code and available to view on the Downtown District's Mural Walk map.
